Number 56 was the title of one of The Village's shopkeepers. The character appears in the first ("Arrival") episodes of the the 1967-68 British television series The Prisoner and was portrayed by actor Denis Shaw.
Shaw also appeared as a shopkeeper in the ninth episode (Checkmate), but had the number 19.
