Number 2, possibly named Mrs Butterworth, was a chief administrator[1] of The Village in the 1967-68 British television series The Prisoner. Portrayed by British actress Georgina Cookson, the character first appeared in the seventh episode, "Many Happy Returns", and went on to make an appearance in the 1988 graphic novel, The Prisoner: Shattered Visage. More than 17 different actors appeared as holders of the office during the 17-episode series.
Background[]
Number 6 first encountered Mrs Butterworth when he managed to escape from the Village and find his way back to London. She appeared to live in his flat. Once he is back in the Village, he learns that Mrs Butterworth is the new Number 2.
Given the nature of the deception there is no way to know if Butterworth was indeed her name. Despite this uncertainty she is the only Number 2 to be assigned an actual name.
