Number 249 was the title of a town crier in The Village. The character appears in the eighth episode ("Dance of the Dead") of the the 1967-68 British television series The Prisoner and was portrayed by English actor Aubrey Morris.

Standing in front of the assembled villagers, Number 249 announces the carnival which would be occurring later that night, following which, choreographed 'merriment' breaks out among those gathered.
